James Gibson is a singer-songwriter, producer, and sound engineer from Ottawa. He started performing live at sixteen — the year he cut his first single at Ottawa’s Raven Street Studios, where he later trained at The Audio Recording Academy (TARA). His singles Blink, Laugh Again, Complicated, and No Place to Go were produced by Nixon Boyd — former lead guitarist of Hollerado — at Banquet Sound and Simcoe Mechanical. He works both sides of the glass: writing and performing his own music while engineering and producing for other artists.
His catalogue has passed 250,000 streams, with commercial radio airplay on Hot 89.9 FM and a live acoustic session on CBC Radio One's All In A Day. In 2024 he was nominated for Newcomer of the Year at the Capital Music Awards.
On stage he has been a feature act at LIVE on Elgin and an opener and headliner at the Rainbow Bistro, with appearances at Lowertown Brewery. Now twenty, he has engineered and collaborated with artists ranging in age from sixteen to sixty.
James releases through Caber Records and is available for session work, production, and live performance.
